WW, that is wonderful. I do think it is important to check out someone claiming to have scripture from God. Nowhere in the Bible does it claim that the cannon is closed. As I said in the post, I am sure it was difficult for the true believers of the Old Testament to gain a Testimony in Jesus as the Christ. I love how Jesus met the two disciples on the road to Emmaus and taught them from the scriptures all that it had said would happen. The Old Testament paints Jesus in three major titles--Prophet, Priest and King. The Jews at that time were looking for the Messiah King because they wanted to be released from Roman superiority. Most of them missed the true Christ because they didn't realize that Christ would also be the final Priest--one who offered Himself as the Final Sacrifice for sin. That's why Jesus had to open their hearts to the truth---through scripture. It was there, and anyone willing to search scripture would find the truth and know that their sins had been forgiven--at the Cross. Today, anyone willing to search scripture will find the same truth. All praise and glory to our Savior Jesus, whose shed blood washed all my sins away! And, yours and everyone elses also. :)

Latterdaysaintwoman, the way I initially faced the Book of Mormon
(BM) was preceded by my hearing of the claim that the Mormon
Church was the only true on earth today, etc. That put me in an
awkward position as a non-member. So when I first heard of the
claims of Mormon leaders to be appointed by Jesus to deliver His
gospel to everyone , and that this was going on since 1830 , I
therefore wanted to see what this book (BM) had to say about
God/Jesus and what it taught is required to receive eternal life etc.
( I do this with any new book or message from a prophet ). So I
read the BM , but I also read the teachings of those men who were
claiming to be personally directed by Jesus to teach His gospel, the
men who were close to the genesis of this restored church and who
came West to continue their preaching. But I was soon getting mixed
messages because what the BM taught about God and the requirements for eternal life was being mixed with what these
men , these apostles, were teaching. They had heaped many teachings onto the gospel as revealed in the BM . This seemed
to be what the BM (and the N.T. ) warned about would come--- Alma
13:20; 2Nephi 28:14,31; 1Tim 2:15 ;6:3 .Gal.1:8-9. Long story short:
I realized these new apostles could'nt be trusted , they were not the
leaders of the only true Church . I realized that I really did'nt need the
BM , the spiritual truth that the N.T. contained was sufficient to guide
me to a right and saving relationship with God thru Jesus --Heb7:25
So I stuck with the Bible . That was many years ago.

Great post. This issue , of evaluating the teachings of any prophet
who approach us today with their "gospel" , is so fundamental
to our spiritual well being because of the simple fact that followers
of false prophets/apostles are coming to our doors with their
message . Think of where the Mormon church would be today if they
would still be preaching about God and salvation like they originally
did ? It's amazing how far subsequent Mormon leaders drifted from that message .In looking at their teaching track record we can rightly
dismiss them as trustworthy spiritual guides . This does'nt mean that
these men were bad people, they simply " taught for doctrines the
commandments of men " . This is not new behavior as Gal.1:7-9
speaks of this problem . I would hope that Mormons would embrace
" the old family Bible " and come to find out the exciting truth that
the New Testament reveals all that is necessary in how to receive
salvation in the fullest , because it's the invitation right from the very
One who gives complete forgiveness and eternal life---Heb.7:25 .

I love your blog. Subscribing NOW! It is always encouraging to hear the testimonies of Mormons who have left and accepted justification through true faith in the power of Christ.

We're a new blog, and ever evolving. I've written some posts as I have been researching LDS teachings.

Thanks so much

Comment on The LDS Process of Repentance by latterdaysaintwoman

GhostVoterA,

Oh I repent, hundreds of times a day. Every time I sin I go to Heavenly Father and tell Him how sorry I am that I have disobeyed Him again. Then I turn in thankfulness to my Savior who has already paid the price for that sin. That is what repentance is. Just because I trust that Jesus has forgiven all of my sins does not mean that I don't love and serve God and try to keep His commandments. Every breath I breath is for my Lord whose blood has washed all my sins away:

“And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood” (Revelation 1:5)

The "LDS Process of Repentance" is not repentance. It's really just some of God's commands that LDS prophets put together and called "repentance". They claim that keeping these commands will somehow wash away your sins. But doing something that God has already required of you will not remove your sins!

The writer of Hebrews testifies that the only thing that forgives sins is the shedding of blood: "And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission." (Hebrews 9:22)

Christ's life was the perfect and final sacrifice for the sins of the world! Jesus took away the sins of the world. "The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." (John 1:29)

The Apostle Peter testified that it is through belief in Jesus that we receive the forgiveness that Christ won for us on the cross:

“To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.” (Acts 10:43)

That's why Jesus testified "That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:15)

Do you believe Jesus? The Apostle Peter? John the Baptist? Or the Apostle John?

Because it is only through unbelief -- rejecting Christ's gift of forgiveness; that you remain in your sins.

I praise God that I am a "failed Mormon" and that I am weak. Had I not been weak I would never have fallen in love with my Savior who is my strength! He alone is worthy.
