Young Women Manual 2
OBJECTIVE: Each young woman will treat members of her family in a more Christlike manner.
* The Family Is of Great Importance (page 25):
Read the following quotation from President David O. McKay and discuss its meaning to the young women: “No other success can compensate for failure in the home”.
Test these LDS Words with Biblical Truth:
I grew up dreaming of having an eternal marriage and family. After I left the Church, I was surprised when I learned from the Bible that blood is not what binds a family eternally. Instead, our eternal family depends solely upon those with faith in Jesus! There is only one eternal family–God’s!
While we are so blessed with our families on earth, we have no guarantee that those family members will be with us eternally. It all depends upon one thing, faith in your Savior: the Christ whose blood has washed away all your sins. This is why it is so important to share the message of free and full forgiveness with your family members. Only those with faith in Jesus recieve eternal life.
Jesus taught this truth regarding God’s family:
“While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.” Mt 12:46-50
Just in case you might wonder about Christ’s words here, in John 6:40 regarding doing “the will of my Father which is in heaven”, lets look at it.
When I want to understand what a person is talking about, I search through the rest of their words for insights. In doing so, I find many answers. When speaking of eternal life, Jesus clearly reveals that it is a gift, freely given to every person with faith in Him. He does this because it is also Heavenly Father’s will:
“And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
So how taking it back to Christ’s Words in Matthew:
“But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.” Mt 12:46-50
We become a member of God’s family by faith. It is Heavenly Father’s will that all with faith have eternal life.
